Author tries to offer closure in Vietnam story

WARNER ROBINS - The sinking of Navy Swift Boat PCF-19 off the coast of Vietnam and the death of the five sailors aboard, including a Warner Robins man, still occupies Jim Steffes' thoughts 37 years later.

While the government ruled the boat had gone down under friendly fire, Steffes, who was in another swift boat nearby, always doubted the findings.

"Swift Boat Down," a new book published by Xlibris, is the result of Steffes' own investigation into the sinking of this small but fast gunboat and uses official records and eyewitness accounts to rebut the friendly-fire conclusion.
